For the third consecutive year, the Calpe City Council is once again applying for recruitment programs for young people trained by local authorities. This program, run by Labora, is part of the Programa Operativo de Garantía Juvenil and aims to promote the integration of unemployed young people into working life. The young people are hired for 12 months.

The city council has already carried out a study on the technical needs and will publish the job profile of the demand for applications. The profile of the positions to be filled varies and is suitable both for young qualified people (EMCUJU program), 24 of whom will be recruited, and for those who do not have a specific qualification (EMPUJU program), 27 of whom will be recruited.

In the case of EMCUJU, very different profiles are requested, ranging from administrative technicians, architects, topographers or biologists to child educators, archive and library technicians and social workers. The profiles required by EMPUJU range from administrative assistants to delivery staff, cleaning staff or farmers.

In any case, all persons wishing to take part in this selection procedure must be registered both in the file of the National Youth Guarantee System in the territory of the Valencian Community and in Labora (formerly Servef). Labora will be the one that makes the generic offer and selects the candidates.

Currently 37 young people work in the city of Calpe thanks to the AVALEM Youth Guarantee Labora program, which aims to facilitate the employment of unemployed young people by offering them a job. In the EMCUJU modality, 16 young people work in different professions such as civil engineering, architecture, psychology, computer science, biology, socio-cultural animation or social work. In the EMPUJU modality there are 21 young people who will work as site managers, painters, gardeners, workers and administrative assistants.

The new CEE Gargasindi Special Education School building will be located on the same site as the current building. After months of studying the various possibilities, last week the City Council completely changed its request to the regional government under the Plan Edificant, so that the economic report now says  "Construction / rehabilitation with extension of land and demolition of existing buildings" instead of "New construction at another location".

The current facilities of the Gargasindi Special Education School are not sufficient to meet the needs of this educational community; in 2017 the City Council offered the Ministry of Education two possible locations to continue with the replacement of this centre. At the time, the city council offered the 3,600 m2 plot next to the Silene d'Ifac primary school school and a 2,610 m2 plot (the former Virgen de las Nieves primary school) next to the current Gargasindi Special Education School facilities, so that the total area of the facilities would reach 5,055 square metres.

After an analysis of the possibilities and at the request of the school management, it was decided that the school should remain in its current location and supplement the facilities of the old primary school, whose buildings were to be demolished. After the City Council had sent the financial report by the technical services of the City Council to the Ministry of Education, the Regional Government requested that the title of the application be changed. Now the certificate of the plenary agreement has been sent to the regional government, which will approve the transfer of powers at the beginning of the tender procedure for the draft project for the new school.

In fact, alternatives have already been sought for the temporary resettlement of pupils in the event that work begins. Gargasindi Special Education School of Calpe was founded in September 1980 as a school for children with serious and constant educational needs in the Marina Alta region. Over the years and in order to meet the needs of the region, the students of Marina Baixa have also been integrated. The school has about 80 students with very different special and permanent educational need.

The lifeguard service on the beaches of Calpe begins its summer season on Saturday 1 June. Until 15 October, 35 lifeguards of the company Eulen will ensure safety when bathing on the beaches of Calpe. Their task will be to prevent possible incidents and to help those who are in danger. To this end, they will carry out surveillance on land and sea, either on the beach itself or from the watchtowers near the beach, or from two boats crossing the 13 kilometres of Calpe's coastline, and from two kayaks for bathing areas. This year the service will be reinforced by another lifeguard on the beach of Puerto Blanco.

The lifeguard staff consists of personnel qualified not only for sea rescue, but also for first aid and health care for potential victims. In fact, on the beaches of La Fossa and El Arenal-Bol, the busiest beach, there are defibrillators and an ambulance to transport victims to a health centre. Each lifeguard has an emergency kit to deal with basic incidents and the rescue stations have all the necessary first aid materials.

They are also responsible for the supervision of the two bathing areas for disabled guests in Calpe, one in the Fossa and the other in Arenal-Bol, and accompany disabled bathers with amphibious chairs for bathing in the sea.

The lifeguard service will operate from 1 to 15 June from 11:00 to 19:00 and from 16 to 30 September and from 15 June to 15 September from 10:30 to 20:00.

For the fourth year in a row, more than 150 elementary school students from the 5th grade of the CEIP Oltà, Ceip Gabriel Miró and Ceip Azorín schools are taking part in the Olympic Games of Finance to learn more about the ethical use of money, resources and responsible consumption. The initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Department of Education and Youth of the Calpe City Council.

The Financial Olympics, which are part of the national project "Responsible Consumption for a Better World", are innovative, educational and formative activities specifically designed to enable children to experience and learn the value of saving, the intelligent and ethical use of money and the importance of meaningful and responsible spending, as well as the value of effort as a means of achieving what we need or want.

"Teaching children to maintain a healthy relationship with money is as important as feeding or dressing thyem. With age-appropriate financial education, they have a better chance of becoming responsible and financially independent adults. If children are given the tools they need, they can avoid the pitfalls of consumerism alone," explains Verónica Deambrogio, founder of El Recetario Financiero® (The Recipe Book of Finances®) and responsible for the event

Similarly, all primary schools participating in this activity will become part of the "National Network of Innovative Schools" of El Recetario Financiero®, a network that recognises all Spanish educational centres that are distinguished by their commitment to the dissemination of financial knowledge and innovation, as an essential tool for those who will be the society of the future: children.

El Recetario Financiero® is an educational company whose mission is to help children and young people develop their potential through financial education and entrepreneurial culture. El Recetario Financiero®, together with the municipalities of Benissa, Calpe and Teulada, Creama and various companies in the region, has opened the Marina Alta First School for Young Entrepreneurs at the Centro de Excelencia for young people aged between 14 and 20.

The Calpe City Council today opened the deadline to apply for grants for IBI (Property Tax). The subsidies are open to pensioners (also under 65 years of age) and long-term unemployed with low incomes.

These people can receive a subsidy of up to 400 Euros and up to 75% of the property tax. In order to benefit from this assistance, applicants must have paid property tax on their main residence in the city of Calpe in 2018 as owners or tenants. The applicant may only own one apartment in Calpe, which is also his/her main residence, and must be registered in Calpe at this address. It is also required that the gross annual income of all members of the family unit or couple in the last year taken together does not exceed twice the IPREM (Indicador Público de Renta de Efectos Múltiples) of the year of the call.

Persons over 65 or who have reached this age by 2018, persons under 65 who are social security pensioners by 2018 and the long-term unemployed by 2018 can benefit from this assistance.

The opening of a new bridge over the Pou Roig gorge will change the municipality's road network once and for all, as it will relieve road traffic on Avenida Ejércitos Españoles and connect the sports area with Avenida Rumanía.

The works for the passage and the construction over the Pou Roig gorge and on the Avenida País Valencià cost a total of € 394.703, of which € 344.993 were contributed by the Diputación Provincial and € 39,710.23 by the Calpe City Council.

The project essentially envisages the extension west of the Avenida Pais Valencià to the junction with the Avenida de Rumania, bridging the Pou Roig Gorge by the insertion of 2 parallel sections of 40.00 linear metres of prefabricated concrete frames of 4.00 x 2.00 metres, capable of allowing the calculated flow rate of 117.85 m³/sec.   The works include the construction of footpaths, lighting, gardening and railings to protect the passage. With these works it will be possible to connect the sports and school areas and avoid the traffic jams in summer.

In addition to this connection point between the city centre and the beach area, a 6,000 square metre car park with a capacity for 230 vehicles was also created. This work, consisting of paving, canalisation and fencing, costs €354,082.

The Calpe City Council has called for the VIII Balconies and Old Stores Embellishment Contest. From this edition, the competition is called Kini Pastor as a tribute to this citizen of our city, who recently died and who was very closely engaged with this contest. In fact, he won all editions of the competition.

The aim of this initiative is to promote the care and embellishment of the houses among the residents and merchants of the historic centre in order to make them more attractive and to invite people to visit the old town.

The contest consists of two modalities: the embellishment of private balconies and facades and the embellishment of facades of shops.

The decorative elements for balcony and shop embellishment are freely elegible, but provided that they respect the streets, sidewalks and entrances to houses of other neighbours and use recycled, fireproof and environmentally friendly as well as natural materials. The innovation and harmony of the whole also counts.

Anyone interested in participating can register via the Oficina de Atención al Ciudadano (OAC) (Citizens' Office) or the electronic register of the Calpe City Council. Interested companies or businesses must register electronically, as the law obliges all legal entities to communicate with public administrations in this way.  They need a digital certificate to do so. The deadline for registration for the competition is 29 June.

The beautification works can be carried out from the day of registration for the contest until  July, 7 at 12 noon. The jury will visit the works from July. 8.

Three prizes will be awarded in each category: the first with 500 Euros, the second with 350 Euros and the third with 150 Euros.

Participants in the contest shall maintain the decoration of their balconies or facades until October, 31.
