Triana Matilla Ruiz is a girl from Calpe who just turned 4 years old. After overcoming a severe bone marrow disease, this little girl decided that she wanted to help other sick children on her birthday instead of receiving presents, so she asked her friends to donate money to the AECC - Junta Local de Calpe instead of gifts for her.

Triana managed to raise 150 €, which she handed over to Maria Ferrer, the local president of the AECC, at her birthday party yesterday. Maria Ferrer "highlighted the awareness of this girl and her family who, after a serious illness, now wanted to help other children, as she herself was helped at the time, as well as the generosity and happiness of all the children who donated the money with such enthusiasm”.

The local police of the city of Calpe starts today with the reinforcement of its services from 6 pm and during the whole night, with the aim of improving the surveillance, the control of street sales, and the noise protection, etc..

The service has already been increased from two to three patrols and will now, by the end of August, be extended by another patrol; this will make it possible to expand the service from 18 hours when it is most needed. Local police have identified an increased need from mid-afternoon, either through noise, riots or street vending.

In addition, the bicycle patrol is already on its way on promenades and beach resorts during the day.

For the third consecutive year, the Calpe Fishing Guild, through the Comissió Festes Mare de Deu del Carme and in collaboration with the City Council, is seeking to give new impetus to the traditional festivals of the Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of the sea, and has prepared a wide-ranging programme of events to be held between today and Tuesday 16 July.

The Festival Commission has planned such traditional events as the "Aquajocs" (water games) and the popular "Cucañas" (wooden poles rubbed with fat), which will take place tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in the fishing port or at the " pelota valenciana a llargues i  raspall " match, which will take place tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. on García Ortiz Street.

In addition to the more traditional aspect of the festival, the best alternative pop-rock will return to Calpe tomorrow at 10 p.m. on Saturday at the port facility as part of the Virgen del Carmen festivities, with the Creampop mini-festival as part of the program. This year, Creampop has big stars to offer: Neuman, The Levitans and Q-71, and Queen Tribute. Juan de Pablos DJ will also be DJing from 17:00.

On Sunday at 12:00 the traditional cooking competition takes place in the harbour, in which only "Peix de Calp" (fish from Calpe) can be processed. The competition will be musically underlined by the "El Carellot" Xirimers group and a total of 500 Euros in prize money will be offered. On Monday 15 July, the "Night of Music" will take place On the Plaza Mayor with the participation of Diamond Show.

On Tuesday, the day of the patron saint, the events in the old town are concentrated with the Pasacalles Parade and the Holy Mass at 12:00 in the Virgen de las Nieves. Finally, in the Plaza Mayor, a "Mascletà" (big gunfire) is fired.

In the evening, from 20:30, the festivities will be concentrated again in the fishing port, with the traditional handing over of flowers in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, followed by the seamen's procession and the honouring of fishermen lost in the sea. The "El Carellot" Xirimers group and the music group Unión Musical Calpe-Ifach take part in the procession. The festival ends with a big fireworks display.

The plenary session of the City Council, the first of the new legislative period, today approved the formation of the political groups, the remuneration of the members of the City Council and the number and remuneration of the advisers.

Thus, five exclusive positions with a remuneration of € 34,000 per year were decided, of which four are occupied by members of the governing and one by the opposition party. In addition, three 80% part-time positions with an annual remuneration of 27,200 Euros and one 70% part-time position with an annual remuneration of 23,800 Euros were decided, all of which are withheld by members of the ruling party. Finally, three 80% part-time positions with an annual remuneration of €17,000 were decided, two of them for PSPV-PSOE and one for Compromís.

The Mayor of Calpe, Ana Sala, will not hold a full-time position and will not receive any remuneration, but will receive 550 € per participation in plenary sessions and 350 € per participation in committee meetings and city council meetings. The Mayor declared that "this will reward the responsibility of the position".

The remuneration and compensation of Council members for attending plenary meetings, committees and government bodies is maintained compared to the last legislative period, when the Mayor, as chairwoman of these collegial bodies, slightly increased. Five factions are formed in the City Council: PP, PSPV-PSOE, Compromís-Verds, Ciudadanos de Calpe-Partido de la Ciudadanía and Defendamos Calpe.

The appointment of representatives of the City Council in the collegial bodies was also decided. On this point, Defendamos Calpe proposed an amendment because this group is not part of any of these bodies. The mayor has undertaken to change this situation.

With regard to the number of advisers, a total of seven have been decided with an annual remuneration of €33,458. The ordinary municipal plenary meetings will take place on the second Monday of the month at 5 p.m. and the government meetings and informative committees on Friday.
