After four and a half years closed to the public and in a state of abandonment, Puerto Blanco will reopen in the summer of 2022. The Generalitat Valenciana (Regional Government) has recently awarded the concession for the construction and operation of this mooring area to the joint venture of Marina Mirarmar, S.A.- Banlor, S.A.- Indeisla, S.L..
This is long-awaited news and was justified by the citizens of Calpe due to the ruinous state this enclave was in. Firstly, because of the lack of maintenance due to the failure to comply with the conditions of the previous concessionaires and then because of their neglect while waiting for the new concession to be awarded. The port experienced a particular deterioration due to the loss of the breakwater and a general deterioration that led to its collapse. As it was not possible to ensure that the boats could stay under minimal safety conditions, the port had to be closed to navigation and the removal of the boats ordered.
The company that is awarded the contract must now carry out urbanisation, construction and harbour works. This includes dredging, rebuilding quays, reinforcing and rebuilding part of the breakwater and consolidating the adjacent slopes. In addition, the project includes an elevated walkway around the perimeter of the harbour, which will enable the restoration of the coastal façade for the enjoyment of residents and tourists. With an approximate area of 7,800 m2 of land and 11,000 m2 of water, it will have 203 berths, in addition to five commercial spaces. In addition, the port will be renamed Marina Portblanc.
The Councillor for Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Arcadi España, and the Mayoress, Ana Sala, visited the facilities this morning together with representatives of the contracted company, who explained the specific features of the project.
Arcadi España highlighted that: "the release of the administrative situation of Puerto Blanco de Calp, which will allow a new stage, in a port of the Generalitat by the hand of the City Council, with a new concessionaire and with an investment of five million euros, very important for Calp and also for the whole province of Alicante and the Comunitat Valenciana".
Thus, in addition to the considerable amount of money that will be invested in this port, the Minister also assessed the sustainable way in which this will be done: "We are relying on recyclable material and renewable energy.
Likewise, he thanked the concessionaires for their project and "all the work they have ahead of them, with the aim that in a year and a half, in the summer of 2022, this port can be opened and given back to the city of Calp and the tourists who visit it".
Ana Sala, meanwhile, said that "although the draw for the national lottery is Tuesday 22 up the citizens of Calp has already won the lottery. It's a very important day for Calp as it finally sees the light of a project much sought after by its neighbours."
The concessionaire's consideration for the adaptation, construction and operation of the port and its facilities will consist of the right to operate the water sports facility, through the payment of the corresponding fees approved by the administration, to be paid by the users of the facilities, as well as other revenues that may be generated through the use of the concession area.
The work is expected to start in April.
