The plenary session of Calpe Town Council today approved the public prices for the provision of the municipal swimming pool. The Town Council envisages that the management of the pool and its services will be managed directly by the Town Council, hence the need to approve the public prices for the pool.
It is considered that given the demand for aquatic activities, it is the right time to establish a regulation that allows access to these activities in a fair and sustainable way in the facilities of the Calpe municipal swimming pool. With regard to financing, the establishment of a fee to be paid by users would provide the Town Council with the necessary financial resources to finance, at least in part, this public service.
Thus, a price of €40 per month is established for aquafitness classes and €100 per quarter for these same classes; matroswimming classes will be priced at €35 if they are monthly and €95 if they are quarterly. Free swimming will cost €5 per day except in July and August, when free swimming per month will cost €30. Swimming training classes will cost €40 per month and €100 per term.
Swimming lessons for adults will cost €40 per month and €100 per term. And the use of the pool for group sports will cost €50 per month.
Exempt from paying these public prices are individuals who can prove that they are in receipt of the Minimum Vital Income, the Valencian Inclusion Income or the Basic Programme in the calendar month in which the application for exemption is submitted. Also exempt from payment of these public prices are individuals who can prove that they are in receipt of a social emergency economic benefit from the social services of Calpe Town Council.
The agreement regulating the swimming pool fees establishes that when the service is not provided for reasons attributable to the Town Hall, the corresponding amount will be refunded.
Last May, the Town Hall reopened the municipal swimming pool facilities after its closure in December due to the termination of the contract with the concessionaire as a result of its numerous breaches of contract. Until now, the pool has been open for free swimming with a lifeguard and administration service.
The point has been approved with the votes of the Government (Somos Calpe, PSPV and Compromís) and Defendamos Calpe, precisely the councillor of this party, Toni Tur, has pointed out that although the reopening of the pool is working it is necessary to continue working "in the economic report has happened as in the previous tender, we do not see data in terms of benefits, there is an estimate that is not real or reliable, we would have liked it to be more detailed what we do like about this new stage is that the City Council can have an exhaustive control of the facilities".
The councillor for the Partido Popular, César Sánchez, stressed that "we in the PP believe that these are patches and do not solve a problem, Calpe needs a swimming pool with gymnasium and complementary facilities, we opted to initiate a tender for the implementation of a new pool with all the services.
For his part, the Councillor for Sports, Ximo Perles, has announced that "the tender for the access control with turnstiles has already been put out to tender, as well as the application for the collection of fees, the tender for the lifeguard service will be published shortly, the machinery is greased".
The mayoress concluded by stressing that "a great effort has been made, the PP is asking for a new swimming pool, we also want one, and we want to rehabilitate the promenades and the Plaza Mayor and the new health centre... but things go according to budget and right now we have other priorities rather than a new swimming pool".
