Last Saturday, Lucía Pérez Arévalo and Ariadna Serra García were elected queens of the Calpe Festival 2019 during a gala attended by some 2,000 people. The election took place by means of a drawing; the queens of the previous year, Lucía Tensa and Sandra Simarro, drew the names of the 18-year-old and 8-year-old candidates respectively.
The gala organized by the Festival Committee 2019 took place on the Plaza Mayor. The Adult and Childrens´ Queen were escorted by the ladies of honour of the years 2011 and 2001, and the festeros and festeras of the year 1981, who complete the commission under Raquel Pastor.
The Queen of 2018, Lucía Tenza, drew the envelope with the names of the 2019 Queens, and the moderators called the names of each of the ladies who make up this year's Court of Honour. The tension reached its peak when the names of the new Queens of the 2019 Festival were announced.
After the election of the Queens, the President of the Festival Commission, Ana Perles, Councillor for Feasts, and Ana Sala, Mayor, addressed a few words to the new Queens and the Commission that organises this year's Festival.
All the participants of the Festival Committee members of the years 2981, 2001 and 2011, took part in the Gala. They all entered the stage at the end of the Gala. This Saturday's event is the preamble to the patron saint's feasts in honour of the Mare de Déu de les Neus, which take place in the first half of August.
