Section 6 of road J, one of the most important urban development projects of Calpe Town Hall, will soon be able to go out to tender. The next municipal plenary session, to be held on Tuesday 12 September, will approve the last step to make this possible: a credit amendment of 1 million euros to increase the budget for the works to 2.7 million euros.
The project, which was to be the star investment of the last legislature, was delayed after a report from the Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar obliged the council to carry out rainwater drainage works as part of the road is in a flood zone. For this reason, the Consistory has had to adapt the project and after receiving the approval of the CHJ now has to approve the credit modification of 1 million euros, which is the cost that will involve the execution of these unforeseen works.
Of the 2.7 million euros, the Diputación de Alicante will provide a total of 430,900 euros through the Plan de Inversiones y Financiación de la Provincia (Planifica). In this sense, the City Council will give the highest priority to the project as the works must be completed before the end of 2024 in order to receive this aid.
Section 6 of road J is the last section, 650 metres long, which remains to be opened of a road which was already included in the 1989 General Plan. It will connect with sections 1-5 of this road - which start at the Avenida de la Generalitat roundabout and end at the existing roundabout on Avenida Casanova through the Gargasindi area - and will connect Avenida Casa Nova with Avenida Rumania. In this way, this road J, which according to a plenary agreement will be renamed Avenida Felipe VI, will allow traffic to move from the beach area towards the main road without passing through the Ejércitos Españoles and Diputación avenues, which will relieve traffic congestion in the town centre.
"Road J is a very important infrastructure, we can consider it as Calpe's ring road, which will undoubtedly contribute to its growth and development as a city," said the councillor for Urban Planning and Infrastructures, Juan Manuel del Pino.
"This is a historic project, which has taken many years of management and work to reach the point where we are today and that will make Calpe an open and more modern town, with better access to the beaches and urbanizations, thus decongesting busy roads in and out of Calpe as Ejércitos Españoles, Diputación and Generalitat", said the mayoress of Calpe, Ana Sala.
