The city council has launched an energy saving plan to reduce the municipal electricity bill by more than 40%.

To this end, it has begun to reduce public lighting in some areas that are currently less frequented, such as the Princesa de Asturias ecological pedestrian walkway, to which access is forbidden, so it is not reasonable to maintain all the lighting in this pedestrian walkway, with the costs that this entails.

In other areas, the lighting is reduced by a third, such as in the promenades, where every third lamppost is switched off, and in Avenidas Rumania, Generalitat, etc.

The city's staff has evaluated all the areas of the city to decide whether they are eligible for the implementation of this savings system or whether the lighting should be maintained as before.

The idea is to reduce the amount of lighting but taking into account that the citizens are affected as little as possible. Therefore, there are areas where lighting is reduced by a third; in others it is switched off completely and in others it is maintained.

Ana Sala, the Mayor of Calp, has stated that "in these moments of reduced freedom of movement and with the majority of the population in their homes, it is not useful to light many areas if no one enters these areas".
