Since March 2020 and until December of the same year, Calp Municipality has granted €282,736 in direct emergency social assistance, which benefited 1,101 Calp families, and in the entire month of January, a total of €16,600 in emergency social assistance was granted.
Therefore, this year, with the next approval of the municipal budget, the City of Calp plans to significantly increase the budget for the granting of emergency social assistance due to the large number of applications that are still being processed today. These economic benefits are directed to individuals or families to remedy the seriously deteriorated situation resulting from the health emergency.
Social assistance is granted to residents who are in an emergency situation, and have to incur extraordinary expenses and meet certain needs of a basic and urgent nature. The assistance is granted for the use of the usual dwelling, to cover the basic needs of the family and for expenditure on basic energy supplies. To be eligible for this assistance, an appointment must be made by telephone with the municipal social service.
In addition, it is expected that more staff will be recruited in the coming months to meet the requirements of the Social Inclusion, Equality and Family Unit. It should be noted that since the beginning of 2021, the staff has been reinforced with one social worker and two social assistants. With the arrival of these new professionals, efforts are being made to improve the care provided to citizens.
