The City Council decided at its meeting today that the municipality's beaches will remain open during the Sant Joan night (solstice) on 23 June, although crowds and mass events are prohibited.

The City Council has also agreed that Borumbot Beach, which is less lit, will not be open to the public. All the festivities traditionally held on the occasion of the Sant Joan fiesta have been suspended, both in the Partida de la Cometa and Plaza Colón. These programs included the burning of the solstice fire as well as the funfair, bullfights and other celebrations in the Partida de la Cometa.

As for the traditional bonfires on the beaches, these have long been banned in Calp. Another activity that will not be possible this year on San Joan night is a dinner on the beach.

The Town Council calls on the citizens to take responsibility so that a festival like the traditional Sant Joan night does not lead to an excessive concentration of people.

However, the city authorities are waiting for the arrival of visitors in the next few days to see if any changes need to be made to the rules.
