Calp City Council, through the Education Council, has installed CO2 meters and air purifiers in the four local schools and Silene d'Ifac kindergarten during the Christmas holidays. These measures are intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the classrooms.
The CO2 meters make it possible to sound an alarm if a room is not properly ventilated, putting teachers or pupils at risk. They are therefore particularly useful during this period of low temperatures, when the cold forces the windows to be closed.
On the other hand, each school has been provided with an air purifier with HEPA filters, with a capacity for rooms of up to 120 metres, so that they can use it in the dining halls, which are closed rooms where the children do not wear masks. The children of the Silene d'Ifac nursery will also have an air purifier in both the dining room and the bedroom,
There are also plans to install CO2 meters and purifiers in other classrooms owned by the municipality, such as Casa Nova, the adult school (FPA) and the civic centre.
In addition, the Municipal Library will be equipped with CO2 meters and the IES Ifac with a purifier.
During the Christmas holidays, all classrooms, and common areas of the four schools and the Silene d'Ifac kindergarten were also disinfected. Maintenance work was carried out in carpentry, plumbing, and painting, and pruning work was done. A section of the corridor in Mediterrani School was also glazed for the safety of the students, as this area has more traffic due to the organisational changes by COVID-19.
Likewise, new toys have been purchased for the children's room.
"On the part of the City Education Council, we have made it a priority to use these child quiet days to disinfect and pre-clean the classrooms as much as possible. The introduction of both measuring devices and air purifiers can help to give teachers, pupils and their families a little more security," said the Councillor for Education, Rebeca Merchán.
