It has been a century since one of the most important figures in Spanish cinema was born in Valencia: Luis García Berlanga, and Calp is joining the celebrations with a film cycle that includes four of the director's most important films.
The films will be shown in the Saló Blau with free admission; however, registration is required to comply with capacity control and the required security clearance.
The programme includes the emblematic "Bienvenido Mister Marshall" on 9 April, the sarcastic comedy "Plácido", considered his masterpiece, which will be shown on 16 April, the comedy paradigm of Spanish black humour "El verdugo", which will be shown on 7 May, and the irreverent but profound "La vaquilla", which will close the cycle on 14 May. All films will be screened at 19:00.
This cycle begins with the cultural programme in April and May, presented by the cultural department, which includes other activities that always depend on how the pandemic develops.
In addition to the film series, the programme also includes the exhibition "Descubre nuestros artistas, Lugares" ("Discover our artists. Places"), organised by the Frax Foundation, which can be visited in April and May in the exhibition hall of the Ajuntament Vell. The Collector's Museum is showing the exhibition "Baltas Miniatures" until 12 April and the exhibition "History of the Post Office in Calp" by Joaquín Vázquez from 20 April.
From 7 April you can visit the photo exhibition "Pinceladas de Luz" by David Santiago and Juan Tapia, organised by the Foto Club Ifach, in the exhibition hall of the Casa de Cultura.
On Thursday 22 April, the Saló Blau will host the X. International Winter-Spring Music Festival with Beethoven and Brahms, which continues on 13 May with a performance by the soloists of the Camerata Virtuosi. The festival is organised by Pal-Music.
On 23 April, Calp celebrates International Book Day with the presentation of the book "La extraña curación de Marta" by Mercedes de Miguel and PL Salvador. And on 24 April, music takes centre stage with the performance of the Agrupació Música Clau-de-Fa of Calp at the Odeon as part of the XXVI Campaña Música as Pobles de la Diputación (26th Campaign Music Cities of the Provincial Government).
From 11 May, the Casa de Cultura will host an exhibition of bonsais by the Club Bonsai Marina Alta. And preparations are also in full swing for the XI Peñón de Ifach Photo Rally, organised by the Calpe Photo Club.
The City Council for Culture has planned a piano concert by Antonio Galera López for 15 May and a lecture by Eugenio López Segura, author of the book "Una arqueología de Jesús y Pablo", for 21 May.
Children's theatre also returns to the Casa de Cultura with a performance of "Vuela Pluma" by the Periferia Teatro ensemble on 22 May. This production won the prize for best show at the 2015 Tolosa International Puppet Festival.
