The Calp Town Council has provided 68 Wifi points in the municipal administration, a project which is part of the EDUSI strategy "Revitaliza Calp ", co-financed by the European Union's European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which will enable it to be implemented as an Intelligent Tourist Destination.
This initiative can not only facilitate the connection of citizens and tourists to free public WiFi, but also provide the system that will be implemented by the DTI project: sensors that will monitor various aspects of the municipality, such as traffic and parking, water consumption, waste, number of tourists on the beaches, etc.
It is planned to install a total of 120 WiFi points, 30 of which will be outdoors, the location of which is still to be determined. The 68 points provided so far are located not only in the Calp Town Hall itself but also in a large number of municipal facilities such as the House of Culture, the Civic Centre, the Casa Nova, the Maite Boronat vocational centre, the Silene d'Ifac primary school, the tourist offices, the Equality Office and the Domingo Crespo sports centre, to name but a few.
In the near future, WiFi points will also be provided at other municipal venues such as the Ifac Pavilion or the new building of the Municipal Chapel, where offices of the Town Council are to be opened.
One of the thematic objectives of the EDUSI strategy is to improve the use and quality of, and access to, information technologies, and in particular to develop "smart city" initiatives ranging from sensors, the use of large amounts of data or the extension of the Wifi network throughout the municipality.
The EDUSI strategy "Revitaliza Calp" has a total cost of €6,134,522.12, 50% of which (€3,067,261.00) is financed by the ERDF. The Calp Town Council is financing the remaining 50%.
