Calp City Council unanimously decided last Monday to request the Ministry of Education through Plan Edificant to build a new primary school in Calp.
The proposal was put forward by Education Councilor Rebeca Merchan when this need was identified at the last meeting of the City School Board, where the directors of all the schools had the opportunity to express their difficulties.
The educational community is therefore aware of the current problems that Calp is facing in relation to its schools. Issues such as the remarkable increase in the number of places needed for young children, the increase in enrollment outside school hours throughout the school year, or the age of the Colegio Público of Oltá have created a consensus among the various stakeholders involved on the need to apply for the construction of a new school.
The application is for a two-room primary school with 6 pre-school classrooms, 12 primary classrooms and a number of additional classrooms to accommodate possible increases in the number of pupils.
Other essential infrastructures under the important plan include the construction of a second secondary school and the construction of the new building for the Gargasindi Special School, precisely because the demolition of the current building is planned as a prior step to the start of the works.
Regarding the second secondary school, the City Council has sent the first economic report to the Regional Ministry with the necessary changes, and a reply is awaited from the Regional Ministry itself.
