The Plenary Hall of the Calpe Town Hall has hosted today the plenary session for the constitution of the new Municipal Corporation and the election of the mayoress. After constituting the age table with the councillors Itziar Doval and Mireia Ripoll, the swearing-in and investiture of each of the councillors took place, and then the voting for the new mayor began.
The councillors proceeded to cast their votes and the tally showed 11 votes for Ana Sala, 8 for César Sánchez and 2 for Paco Quiles. Thus, as announced in recent days the PSPV-PSOE and Compromís councillors have supported the candidacy of Ana Sala as mayor. It should be noted that the councillors of Somos Calpe, PSPV and Compromís have shown the contents of the ballot paper at the time of voting.
In the turn of interventions, Paco Quiles of Defend Calpe, has pointed out that "our vote is based on principles that are the basis of our project and we do not find them in the other parties that have presented candidacy, we cannot agree with the PP because the major problems of Calp come from the policies of this party. In these four years we have suffered the contemptuous treatment by Ana Sala, therefore, due to the lack of confidence in these projects we cannot support any of these candidates".
Ximo Perles, from Compromís, stressed that "action or inaction has consequences, we support Ana Sala for several reasons, we do not trust the PP and we have reasons because I myself have been a victim of persecution by the provincial PP, nor do we agree with the way she chose her candidate. Confidence has been generated between Somos Calpe, PSOE and Compromís, we will have to negotiate, reach a consensus and resign, but that is what democracy is all about".
Guillermo Sendra, of the PSPV-PSOE, explained his party's vote saying "We have principles and values that go back more than 154 years and we can develop those principles in the front line of battle and not in the rearguard. We have put on the table programmatic lines that benefit the quality of life of the people of Calpe, based on the social aspect, overcoming the model of urban speculation and the defence of sustainability".
César Sánchez, candidate of the Partido Popular, pointed out that "the PP has been the party with the most social support, we are convinced that we are the best proposal to govern because we have the best team and the best programme, based on sustainability, culture, social welfare... I will never leave my town, whether you like it or not, I will be here at the foot of the cannon, we want a stable and consensus government and that is why I have presented my candidacy".
Finally, the newly elected mayoress, Ana Sala, took the floor to point out that "just five months ago I was the victim of a political assassination attempt to remove me from political life. I was the victim and others were the executioners, I have died and I have risen again. This will be the government of consensus, trust and responsibility, based on dialogue and loyalty, with the general interest as its objective. I thank the PSPV and Compromís, Ximo and Guillermo for their support, and I promise them that they will not regret it, I ask them for responsibility and effort to make the projects that Calpe needs a reality"
