This week Aguas de Calpe starts the renovation of the drinking water pipes in the district of Ortembach, and more precisely in sections A, C and D. This work has several objectives: 1,215 metres of new pipes will be laid, the number of leaks or failures in the network will be reduced and the efficiency of the municipal drinking water supply network will be improved.
1,215 metres of new polyethylene pipes with a diameter of 110 mm will be laid. For this purpose, 8 connection points to the existing network will be established. Furthermore, 71 connections to apartments will be renewed. According to the plan, the work will take four months and the planned investment amounts to € 127,308.60.
These works will improve the quality of the service by ensuring the continuity of the supply by eliminating the current pipeline sections within private properties and by optimizing the supply conditions in terms of pressure and flow.
The works will also make it possible to continue the rationalisation process of the urban distribution network, as they will make it possible to leave a total of 1,568 metres unused, mainly of fibre cement pipes, which were obsolete and mostly run inside private properties.
The continuous renewal process of the pipes that Aguas de Calpe is carrying out is essential to ensure the sustainability of Calp's supply system, as it is one of the main factors, along with the remote control system, the division of the network into sections and the installation of smart residential meters, that have improved hydraulic performance and have enabled Calp to exceed the 85 percent performance level.
