Very important dates are approaching for everyone. Under normal circumstances, as Mayor of Calp, I would turn to you all to congratulate the visitors to our local festivals and to invite the people of Calp and those who visit us to some days of meeting, celebration and fun.

My congratulations go out to you, and I would especially like to encourage the 2020 Festival Committee for all its efforts, its infinite patience and understanding, and for its great work and dedication throughout the year to the task of organizing the best possible festival.

August is the month of hope and happiness, when tradition and dedication show themselves in processions, crowded streets, concerts, costumes, our Bous al Carrer (bulls in the streets), our lively Plaza Mayor ... where the excitement of our 'festeros', who end their year, and our 'preesteros', who enthusiastically begin their most important year, floods every corner.

This year we live in a completely different reality. COVID-19, a terrible pandemic that was unimaginable for any of us a few months ago, has caused it. A difficult scenario for all of us, which interrupted the daily routine of our lives.

That is why, now more than ever, I would like to ask you that this sense of human pride and identity that would flood Calpe this month be present in our hearts more than ever and that we celebrate August 5th with the solemnity and respect that our patron saint deserves. Let us add a colourful touch to our streets with festive lighting and to our hearts with a festive atmosphere.

Let us be far from being sorry for what we have missed. We have gained in maturity, responsibility, solidarity and hope. I hope that next year we will celebrate two things: our contribution to the eradication of COVID-19 and the celebrations of our patron saint, organised by the 2020 and 2021 Commissions, the most important in the history of this city. There will be no lack of help from your Town Hall and from all the citizens of Calp, who will be more involved than ever.

Citizens of Calpe, Festive Committees 2020 and 2021, let us live these days in the hope that in 2021 we will be able to make reparations, and we, your Town Council, would like to accompany you on this beautiful journey.

Long live the Virgen de las Nieves, long live Calpe!

Ana Sala, Mayor of Calp
