Global Omnium, in collaboration with the Observatory for Resilient and Sustainable Cities and Calpe City Council, announces the opening of the call for the 2nd #goCALP Contest. This unique challenge invites young climate urban planners over 14 years old, students of ESO, Bachillerato, or FP to submit innovative proposals to address the critical climate risks facing our communities.

The competition focuses on six key climate risk areas: drought, heatwaves, floods, biodiversity, degradation of the natural environment, and population fixation and demographic challenge. These challenges require creative and sustainable solutions to build more resilient communities. The competition is endowed with a first prize of €5,000 and a second prize of €3,000.

"We want to encourage active community participation in finding practical solutions to the climate challenges we face. This competition is an opportunity for climate planners to show their ingenuity and contribute to building a more sustainable future," emphasises Juan Luis Pozo, Director of Corporate Sustainability at Global Omnium.

The Mayoress of Calpe, Ana Sala, pointed out that "young people have a more sensitive capacity to observe and interpret climate change than others, so we are obliged to listen to them and take into account their proposals and adopt ecological initiatives to combat climate change. We cannot be left behind in the face of the climate emergency and I am sure that both the conference and the GoCALP competition will provide us with topics and proposals to reflect on and apply in our daily lives".

The 2nd #goCalp competition invites teachers and students from the age of 14 to form teams of young "Urban Planners for Sustainability". The challenge runs throughout the 2023/2024 school year.

Global Omnium encourages participants to develop pilot projects that address one of the six climate risks identified by the Observatory. In addition, the proposed solutions should be applicable to municipalities of different sizes.

Registration for the 2nd #goCalp Contest will remain open until 29 February 2024. For more information and to join this inspiring initiative, please visit (www.go2ods.net).
