On the 17th and 18th of May, Calpe will host the XXV Aplec de la Federació Valenciana de Dolçainers/res i Tabaleters/res (FVDIT), an event that will bring together around 1000 dolçainers and tabaleters from all over the Valencian Community with the aim of promoting Valencian music and culture. This event will also serve to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Colla de Xirimiters del Carellot de Calpe.
For this reason, the Colla de Xirimiters and the Town Hall have organised an intense weekend that will start on Friday 17th May with concerts in the Plaza Mayor by "La Fumiga" and Cate DJ.
On Saturday 18th May the day will begin with a parade on wheels and a talk on traditional music. In the afternoon there will be another parade through the old quarter, a Luthiers' fair in the Plaça Mayor and a joint performance by all the participating groups of dolçainers and tabalaters, as well as a display of "dances i muixeranga"
The events will be concentrated in the main square, where the participating groups will be able to enjoy a Calpe fish stew sponsored by the Calpe Fishermen's Guild at midday, and in the evening a brotherhood dinner will be served among all the "colles" (groups) who have travelled to Calpe.
At 20:30, the Casa de Cultura Auditorium will host a performance by the Valencian dance company "Otradanza" presenting "Clandestino", and at 23:00 there will be a "correfoc" through the streets of the town. In the evening there will be a concert by "Niuss" and "DJ Plan B", also in the Plaza Mayor.
