Calpe City Council will distribute 4,000 reusable bottles starting next Thursday, January 30th, so that citizens can remove the urine of their pets. The measure was adopted following the amendment to the regulation on citizens living together in public places, approved in the ordinary plenary session of January, which makes it compulsory to clean the urine of pets with water.

It is an initiative that aims to raise citizens' awareness of the need to keep the streets of the municipality clean, while at the same time publicising the changes introduced by a regulation that also obliges pet owners to collect the excrement of their pets with waterproof bags. The regulation also provides for fines of up to 650 euros for these actions.

Interested citizens can pick up the bottles at the Health Office, located on the ground and fourth floors of the Town Hall, and at the offices of the Animal Protection and Collection Service from 9.30 to 13.00, with the documentation of the animal to be presented together with the municipal registration. The aim is to use this initiative to update the municipal animal census.

The distribution of the bottles is part of a public awareness campaign to be carried out over the next two months. During this time, no fines will be imposed, as Mayor Ana Sala announced in the plenary session. She stressed that the aim of the regulation is not to punish, but to contribute together to a clean city of Calpe.

This awareness campaign also includes the distribution of an information leaflet with the news introduced by the regulation, the distribution of which has already begun during the ceremony of animal blessing in the two parishes of Calpe with the occasion of the Saint Anthony´s day.
