Calpe Town Council aspires to become an attractive tourist destination for LGTBI people. For this reason, the councillor for International Promotion, Marco Bittner, together with the councillor for the Environment and Beaches, Pere Moll, presented Calperide at Fitur, an event with which the Calpe town council will celebrate Pride Day in a festive and fun public event.

Bittner highlighted the tolerant and hospitable character of the people of Calpe, which makes it an "LGTBI friendly" destination. "A municipality like Calpe, which has more than 90 nationalities and most of its population born abroad, is inevitably defined as a tolerant, diverse and welcoming municipality", he pointed out. In his speech, he recalled the celebration in June 2015 of the lesbian festival OLAGIRLS and that Calpe, due to its climate, has always been a place chosen by many LGTBI couples to spend their retirement. In this sense, he added that Calpe is a destination that offers gastronomy, heritage and natural landscapes, including its "well-kept beaches, ideal for leisure, rest and disconnection".

He also highlighted the opening in recent years of several gay bars and the founding of associations defending the rights of this group.

Calperide will consist not only of holding an institutional event and a parade on the occasion of Pride Day, but also of preparing an agenda of activities that will include talks, concerts and exhibitions related to this day. "We intend to institutionalise the commemoration of LGTBI Pride Day, to give it the importance it deserves, so after a small celebration organised by the City Council last year we are now going to accompany it with a full programme of activities," said Pere Moll.
