The Calpe Town Council has already made an initial estimate of the damage caused by the rain and storm Gloria: 1,340,000 euros on Fossa beach alone, the most affected area of the municipality. This is a large amount of damage which, at its meeting this morning, led the Calpe Town Council to urge the Generalitat Government and the Spanish Government to include the municipality among the areas declared a disaster area and to provide the necessary funds to alleviate the damage suffered.

"We are calling for the designation of a disaster zone because of the extent of the damage we have suffered in Calpe," said the mayor of the municipality, Ana Sala.

The technicians of the municipality are still in the process of determining the extent of the damage to the rest of the coast, and it is expected that next week they will be able to establish a concrete amount.

The storm in La Fossa has mainly damaged the pavement of the promenade with cracks and loose pieces, and some parts of the promenade have collapsed, which has also affected the retaining walls. All litter bins and foot baths were also badly damaged, as were stairs and ramps, and the tourist information stand was destroyed. In addition, several palm trees have collapsed.

On Arenal beach, on the other hand, where the damage was less extensive, there was a rockfall, a fallen palm tree and water that washed over part of the beach.

In addition to the damage to the promenades, there was a great deal of damage, such as falling façade elements, fallen trees, awnings, advertising posters, metal roofs and traffic signs. Sports facilities were also affected. In the Domingo Crespo Pavilion, panels have come loose from the roof, and water has penetrated the Ifach Pavillion and the Pista Azul.
