With the arrival of summer the Calpe City Council has launched another year the campaign to prevent and detect tiger mosquito. From June to October a company will be responsible for placing traps in different areas of the municipality to conduct a census of this insect and be able to act with greater forcefulness in areas where its presence is detected. This company will also carry out prevention work in the rest of the municipality.

The City Council recalls that in the fight against the tiger mosquito the citizens play a fundamental role since it is estimated that more than 90 percent of the places where mosquitoes  can breed are private. The Aedes albopictus is raised in water accumulations, such as animal drinkers, water tanks, vases with water, scuppers ... so it is recommended not to keep containers that accumulate water to prevent the proliferation of mosquitoes. In addition, citizens can contact the municipality if they detect the presence of these mosquitoes so that the company fighting mosquitoes knows the places they frequent and thus be able to act against them.

On the other hand, the City Council has applied to the Universal and Public Health Department of the Regional Government  for a subsidy of 3,630 Euros for treatment costs to fight the tiger mosquito for the year 2019.

The tiger mosquito is an invasive species native to Southeast Asia, able to breed in almost any accumulation of water that remains more than five days. Its bite is very annoying and can also occur during daylight hours.
