DÍAS 29 Y 31 DE MAYO
Friday, 15 May, 2020 - 13:00

The city council held a meeting this morning. Among the decisions taken was the temporary transfer of the weekly market from Saturday 23 May to the Plaza Mayor. With this change, and after examining various possible locations, the necessary security measures will be in place.

The square will be fenced in and an access and exit area will be set up, gel and gloves will be distributed, and the use of a protective mask will be compulsory. However, this location of the weekly market will only be temporary, as the market is expected to return to the old town once the alarm condition is over.

Another aspect that the City Council dealt with was the obligation to wear a protective mask in public buildings, since the Citizens' Advisory Office (Oficina de Atención al Ciudadano) is already open to the public and from Monday the Municipal Library in the Casa de Cultura will also be open to the public. The local government insists on the health recommendation to wear protective masks, to respect the distance between people and to wash hands.

In addition, from today, the streets Pintor Sorolla and Corbeta (from calle Doctor Fleming to Avenida Ejércitos Españoles) are only accessible to pedestrians, to allow the installation of terraces by hoteliers on the pavements. The local police and the City Councillor for Town Planning and the Environment are still studying the possibility of closing more streets to traffic to encourage the installation of terraces.

This week also saw the resumption of several tenders that had been put on hold due to the state of alarm, including that of the "Zona Azul" (Pay Parking Area), which, although not finally awarded, could be put into operation in the first half of June. In addition, the electronic processing of tenders is being promoted in order to continue to contribute to local reactivation.
