Calp will reform its beach promenades after the effects of storm Gloria with minor interventions in order to be ready for Easter, and will address the rebuilding project in response to a study on the consequences of climate change on the beaches, which is being conducted by the Institute for Coastal Ecology.

This was decided at a meeting attended by technicians and political leaders from the city to decide on immediate measures to be taken in relation to the damage caused by the storm.

It was also decided to create a specific budget line to repair the damage caused. At the same time, the City Council will benefit from the subsidies that both the Central Government and the Generalitat Valenciana are providing to the affected municipalities.

The City Council has sent a letter to the Subdelegación del Gobierno with an economic estimate of the damage, prepared by the technicians of the City Council. Thus, the damage to the promenades is estimated at 1,340,000 euros, the damage to the repair of the slope stabilisation at 1,100,000 euros and the damage to the beaches at almost 1,000,000 euros.

Mayor Ana Sala stated: "At the moment we will start the repair of the promenades as soon as possible so that they are ready for Easter, and we will calmly start the project of redesigning the promenade, taking into account the effects of climate change on our coast, thus avoiding further damage like the one we have just experienced".
