Calp will host the provincial competition of musical groups of the 2nd section on 22 March, organised by the Provincial Council in collaboration with Calp City Council and the Calp-Ifach Music Association. This is the provincial competition for groups of 51 to 70 musicians.
A few days ago, the drawing of lots took place in the Palacio Provincial to determine the names of the participating groups to know: Societat Musical L' Alianza de Mutxamel, L' Harmonía Societat Musical d' Alacant and Unión Musical de Asís. This event was attended by the Cultural Officer, Julia Parra, the Calp City Councillor for Culture, Pilar Cabrera, and the President of the Unión Musical Calp-Ifach.
The compulsory work in this competition is the symphonic work "El ritual del fuego" by the composer and conductor of Canals, David Penadés Fasanar. In addition, the Societat Musical L' Alianza de Mutxamel, conducted by Mario Roig Vila, will be presented as works of free choice "Arte" by Juan B. Francés Parra and "Cantus Laetus" by David R. Gilligham. While L' Harmonía Societat Musical d' Alacant will perform "Musical Apolo" by Amando Blanquer and "Valhalla" by Francisco Zacares Fort under the direction of José Tomas Moñinos Baeza, the Unión Musical de Asís will perform the pasodoble "Unión Musical de Asís" by Valdés and "Gloriosa" by Yasuhide Ito under the direction of Francisco Antonio Soler Compañ.
The competition will be closed out of competition by the Unión Musical de Calp under the direction of Enríque Montesinos. The prize for the competition is 4,200 euros for each of the participating groups and another 2,500 euros for the group receiving the Mención de Honor.
