This week work will resume on the reconstruction of access to La Fossa beach and will be carried out by the Dirección General de la Costa y el Mar through its Coastal Service of the Province of Alicante. The City Council and the Dirección General de la Costa y el Mar had agreed to stop work on 3 July so as not to impede access to the beaches.
The works, with a budget of 115,840.91 euros, consist of the reconstruction of the different accesses to the beach, in compliance with the parameters of accessibility and the guidelines established in the Coastal Law. In addition to these measures, the Coastal Service will carry out other repairs in the municipality, in particular on the existing wooden accesses on Arenal Bol beach and Calalga beach, which were also damaged by the effects of the storm in mid-January.
Work will also begin in mid-September to rebuild the walls of the Paseo de la Fossa and its paving, which were destroyed by the storm.
The work will consist of repairing and restoring the sections of pavement damaged by the storm, and demolishing the loose sections of wall and rebuilding them. There are also plans to rebuild a 5-metre section of the wall. In addition, the City Council will replace the current railing at Paseo de la Plaza Colón with a stainless steel railing.
This work, which has a budget of 118,383 euros, was suspended in July so as not to disturb the city during the periods of greater tourist traffic. Both works are expected to be completed before October.
The reconstruction plan should have been implemented shortly after the storm, but the outbreak of the pandemic and the suspension of tendering procedures due to the state of alert decree delayed the whole process, which was stopped again in the middle of summer to avoid inconvenience
