The Colegio de Educación Especial Gargasindi Special Education School has in the last few days begun preparations for its provisional transfer to the former IES - High School of Benissa, while the extension work of the centre is being carried out under the Plan Edificant.

The current facilities of the Gargasindi Special School are not sufficient to meet the needs of this educational community. Therefore, in 2017, the Town Council offered the Ministry of Education two possible locations to continue with the exchange of this centre. At the time, the City Council offered, on the one hand, a plot of land of 3,600 square metres adjacent to Silene d' Ifac Primary School and, on the other, a developed plot of land of 2,610 square metres (the former Virgen de las Nieves Primary School) adjacent to the current Gargasindi Special School facilities, so that the total area of the facilities would be 5,055 square metres.

After an analysis of the possibilities and at the request of the school management, it was decided that the school would remain on its current site, adding to its facilities the facilities of the former primary school, whose building is to be demolished. The demolition work could begin this summer.

While the work is being carried out, the CEE Gargasindi Special School will move its activities to Benissa, more precisely to the former grammar school, a building belonging to the regional government, where the pupils will be housed on a temporary basis. The director of the centre, Inés López, has indicated that "this week we will bring the material to Benissa and in September we will start the school year there. The students were able to come to the centre by appointment to pick up their work and say goodbye, each one of them symbolically painting their painted hands on the wall of this building as a souvenir". In addition, during the month of July, the students will get to know the new school and adapt to the new facilities.

The directors of the CEE Gargasindi Special School have shown their willingness to participate directly in the new project so that the new centre can adapt to the needs of the pupils.

The Gargasindi Special School i was founded in September 1980 n Calp as a resource and care centre for children with serious and permanent educational needs in the Marina Alta region. Over the years and in response to the needs of the region, students from the Marina Baixa region have also been integrated. The school has about 80 students with very different special and permanent educational needs.
