Aguas de Calpe is executing emergency repair works of the sewer on the Avenida del Port. At the beginning of March there was a sudden collapse of the road surface in this avenue that leads to the fishing port, due to the collapse of a sewer section located at a depth of 3 metres. It was established that the collapse of the pipe was due to the decomposition of the pipe built with concrete in the 1970s.
In view of the seriousness of the situation, since it was not possible to ensure the passage of trucks along Avenida del Port on their way to the port installations, and also because it was impossible to collect the sewage produced in the area, Aguas de Calpe began, as an emergency measure, to repair and replace the part of the collapsed collector pipe.
Due to the high excavation depth and the nature of the terrain, the beach, the excavation work is carried out with an armoured shoring system - a circumstance that complicates the work and extends its duration. In order to maintain the drainage service in the area, Aguas de Calpe has installed two automatic and independent drive systems.
Half the length of the collector has already been installed, about 16 metres out of a total of 25 metres, and the construction of a new shaft is also planned for the next few days. Similarly, once the construction work is complete, the existing collector will be reinforced by renovating it with the installation of a reversible self-supporting sleeve.
