CB Ifach Calpe is the winner of the first edition of the Copa Senior Masculino Preferente, an event that took place at the Sports Hall Domingo Crespo in Calp. The home team, supported by the audience, won the title on Saturday for the second time, and the third time on Sunday, becoming the unbeaten winners of the competition.
In the game against CD San Pedro Moixent, Lorenzo González's players were less intense than usual, especially during the first half, marked by the low scoring of both teams. During the second half, their level improved, but Vicent Revert's team remained strong in the court and jeopardized a victory that became real for the home team with a final result of 50-56.
Baixens-CD Berenguer Dalmau is the runner-up after winning in the last encounter of the Cup against NB Torrent (64-51), which is in the third position. The evenness of score between both teams was a curious feature throughout the game. With 5 minutes remaining, the team from Catarroja scored 8 points thanks to a mastery in rebound, an important difference for the game which was preserved to win the runner-up trophy.
Joan Ortolá, from CB Ifach Calpe, was awarded the MVP trophy of the Cup, an award given by the president of the Basketball Federation of the Comunidad Valenciana (FBCV), Salvador Fabregat, together with the council members of Calp's Town Council Domingo Sánchez and Ana Perles; the representative of Alicante's Federation, Juan Miguel Sila; and the president of the home club, Constante Ivars.
With this title, CB Ifach Calpe is almost in for the Autonomic category the next season. They will finally get in if they are between the first four classified teams in their group when the league is over.
