The Town Council of Calp prepares a plan that allows access to social housing for young people. This document, which is in the study phase, is scheduled to enter into force in 2019 and is based on three main axes: facilitate the emancipation of young people, involve young people in the life of the historical centre and promote social and cultural commitment through the participation of NGOs.
The first step to start this initiative is the creation of a housing office for young people in Calp, linked to the municipal areas of Youth and Social Welfare, and whose main function will be the implementation of this plan but also to offer information and help to process another type of aids for young housing from the Generalitat Valenciana or the State Housing Plan.
At the moment, the bases are being drafted to allow the publication of the plan next year, it is about designing the lines of action that favour the access of young people to housing in the Poble Antic (old town).
Poble Antic (old town) is considered the area of action that defines a territorial space halfway between the historical centre, very small as a field of action, and the urban area. It would therefore include the first expansion that occurred in the historical centre in the 60s-70s.
The mayor of Calp César Sánchez said that "we will only achieve the much-desired transformation of the historical centre of Calp with the involvement of our young population. Young people who are also suffering from social pressure because working conditions and remuneration prevent on many occasions their legitimate and desired independence".
"We consider that it is necessary that together with public investment in the historical centre, true participatory social networks be favoured with other sectors of the population and to recover so deeply rooted values in our people as neighbourhood relations have been" Sánchez added.
