The Associació de Moros i Cristians “Santíssim Crist de la Suor” and the Department of Fiestas held this weekend the Mig Any Fester in which they presented the people holding the main fiestas posts of 2017. In the event where posts were exchanged, the mayor of Calp, César Sánchez, announced that they have planned to increase the town's budged in €15,000 of the subsidy that the Associació de Moros i Cristians receives each year for its 40th anniversary and in order to pay for the commemorative events.
Up until now, the Associació de Moros i Cristians “Santíssim Crist de la Suor” which organises the moros y cristianos fiestas received a subsidy of €45,000 to be shared between the different "filaes" according to the fiestas posts of each year. The aim of the Town Council is to support the Association with this year's celebrations, and for that reason, they also announced they would record a promotional video of the fiestas to try to get the Fiestas catalogued as an event of National Tourist Interest.
In the post exchange presentation event, Joanvi Mengual and Maria José Solivelles from the Filá Moriscos, and Mario Schumacher and Belén Gallardo from the Filá Almogávares ceased their posts as Capitán Moro and Favorita and Capitán Cristiano and Primera Dama respectively, to enable the ruling of the Captains of 2017, Aaron Garcia from the Filà Tuareg and Francisco Penella from the Filà Contrabandistes accompanied by the favorita, Miranda Ferrer, and the Primera Dama, Angela Pineda.
Another relevant post is the Abanderada from the Asociación de Moros y Cristianos which this year will be held by Maria del Mar Ribes, from the Filá Mascarats, which will take over Lourdes Molina, from the Filà Almorávides. The Moor and Christian official standard bearers, José Miguel Ortiz, from Tuareg, and Jaime Baydal, from Contrabandistas, will pass the baton to Gorka Xamaní, from Berberiscos, and Marcos Lozano, from Mozárabes
