Work has begun this week on the renovation of the pavement of the Domingo Crespo Pavilion, which was recently awarded to the company Soluciones Deportivas Ibaizabal for a total of 161,536€ and a completion period of two months.
The Domingo Crespo Pavilion is the main indoor sports facility in the municipality, it has a wooden floor that after more than 20 years of use is in a poor state, despite having undergone occasional repairs, and that currently compromises the development of official sports activities. For this reason, it is considered necessary to renovate the sports flooring of the pavilion's court and replace it with another one that guarantees the development of official competitions in the future.
The works will consist of installing a new pavement in an area of 1247 m2. The works consist of removing the existing flooring and laying a new flooring made of solid beech wood boards PREMIUM selection, dried in press, 22 mm thick, nailed on 30 mm high laminated wood, in accordance with standard EN 14904:A3, and with updated FIBA 2023 certification. The sports flooring will be finished around the perimeter with a 5 cm thick ventilated slotted chamber, closed with perforated stainless steel sheeting flush with the flooring.
The works are starting after the end of the sports season, during a period of less activity by the sports clubs. The new pavement will also allow the practice of other sports modalities.
The Domingo Crespo Pavilion was built in 1983 and is one of the most important sports venues in the municipality. In its years of history it has hosted high level sports tournaments, top national basketball championships, the Pau Gasol and Juan Carlos Navarro campuses, etc., but also other social events such as the election of the queen of the fiestas or the folklore festival.
