The Galician painter Lola Extremadouro has begun to make a dream come true: to paint the benches of Calpe's promenade with Mediterranean motifs. A dream in the literal sense. Last Saturday she dreamt that she was carrying out such an undertaking and almost immediately asked the Town Hall for permission to carry it out.
A few days ago, she took out his palette, brushes, and paints to paint his art on the stone benches of Calpe's promenade. Her aim is to give them colour and art with a Mediterranean theme: fish, octopuses, oranges, and other citrus fruits, as well as jars of mistela, are just some of the motifs she has begun to portray on these public seats.
This artist, a native of Vigo, has been living in Calpe for 10 years. And since then, in love with the Mediterranean, she has found her source of inspiration in the sea and the light of these lands.
She is currently painting benches on the promenade of the Arenal-Bol beach and her intention is to continue painting on the Fossa beach as well, although she does not rule out using any other urban element as a canvas if she is allowed to do so.
Lola Extremadouro has a long career dedicated to art. Trained at the Escuela de Artes Aplicadas y Oficios Artísticos de Vigo, she has exhibited her work in the USA, Japan, Italy and Argentina. She has also had numerous exhibitions in Spain and currently has two exhibitions in Holland and Colombia.
