The campaign "Línies amb il-lusió" has managed to bring almost 300 letters to the people who live in the residences or are users of the Home Care Service (SAD) this Christmas and other programmes for the Elderly. This is an initiative, launched for the first time by the Department of Social Welfare, Equality and Family, aimed at these vulnerable groups who live these dates alone and for whom receiving a letter "is a real thrill", said the councillor responsible for this department, Itziar Doval.
The handwritten letters have been written by different associations of the municipality, such as the Alicante Association for the fight against cancer - Calpe branch, the Fibromyalgia Association, the French-speaking Association of Calpe, Belgian Friends of Levante, the Philatelic and Numismatic Association, Women for Equality and the Civic Centre for the Elderly, as well as by many citizens who wanted to join this solidarity project. Letters have been collected in up to seven languages: Spanish, Valencian, English, French, Flemish, German, Czech and Norwegian, which have been delivered to the Domus VI, La Saleta and Colina Club residences, the users of the SAD and the "Menjar a casa" and "Major a casa" programmes.
"The result has been magnificent, with the collaboration of several associations and volunteers of all ages, from children to the elderly. The letters are full of affection and tenderness. Therapeutic letters, some said, because of the good it does to write them. And the surprised recipients said 'is it for me' and as they read them, they smiled and said 'thank you'," said the councillor, who thanked the involvement and participation of all the citizens of Calpe for making this project possible.
