The Tourism Department of Calpe Town Council was present at the 3rd Turespaña convention held in San Sebastian. The Spanish Tourism Institute (TURESPAÑA) is responsible for the promotion of Spain as a tourist destination abroad by coordinating marketing and promoting Spanish tourism strategy. It is an event that brings together the various agents involved in the international promotion of Spain, highlighting its strategic relevance in the international tourism sector.
The convention, as a knowledge-generating meeting point, brought together the latest trends in international tourism promotion, the main theme being sustainable tourism, focused on three axes: environmental, social, and economic. During the symposium, topics such as climate change, “touristification” and local governance were addressed. Debates that are also being addressed in Calpe, as the global trend makes clear the need for a sustainable transformation of tourism.
On the other hand, the representatives of the Calpe Tourism Department together with the Costa Blanca Tourist Board and other destinations had the opportunity to interact directly with the representatives of Turespaña in Northern Europe and Central Europe to assess the presence of Calpe at the fairs in London (UK), Copenhagen (Denmark), Helsinki (Finland), Oslo (Norway), Dublin (Ireland), Brussels (Belgium), Zurich (Switzerland), Berlin and Frankfurt (Germany). The Tourism Department is looking to intensify its presence at trade fairs and promotional activities in these areas in order to consolidate and expand a type of seasonal tourism, more focused on activities, nature and gastronomy
