The Culture Council announces the 1st National "Villa de Calpe" Sculpture Contest aimed at encouraging and promoting the work of sculptors and at the same time, given that the winning sculpture will be placed in a space in the historic centre, will promote the beautification of the old town.
The contest is endowed with a single prize of 7,000 euros and is open to artists of any nationality residing in Spain, although works created collectively will also be accepted. Each artist or collective may submit a maximum of three works.
The registration phase will end on 4 April, during which participants will submit the application form for the competition, accompanied by three photographs or sketches of the work. In the second phase, once the entries have been analysed, the jury will make a selection of works, and the selected artists will have to submit an unsigned model with a slogan and a sealed envelope.
The artists will be free in terms of theme and aesthetic tendencies, although taking into account that the sculptures will be placed outdoors, materials must be used that will not deteriorate in the long term and will withstand exposure to the outdoors.
The jury, made up of people linked to the art world, will take into account the artistic quality of the work, creativity, innovation, originality and expressive force. The winning work will become the property of Calpe Town Council, forming part of its heritage, and it will be the Culture Council that will indicate the definitive location of the work.
