Calpe Town Council has awarded the businessman Carlos Morató Versluys the management of the cinema service in the Municipal Auditorium. The citizens of Calpe will once again be able to enjoy recent film premieres in Calpe, as this is the only cinema in the municipality.
Thus, the cinema returns to the Casa de Cultura of Calpe after three years without this service. The previous contract ended in the middle of the pandemic and the service was postponed firstly due to the installation of the air renovation system in the auditorium and secondly after the tender was declared void on several occasions.
The company awarded the contract will also offer live broadcasting of opera and ballet performances from the Royal Opera House in London, events which were already offered in the previous tender and were very well received by the public. In addition, cinema cycles and films in original version with subtitles will be programmed: auteur cinema, film genres, etc. And in order to encourage the viewing of films, the company will hold the national campaign "La fiesta del cine", aimed at young people.
The new service, which is expected to be launched in the coming weeks, has a duration of three years with the possibility of extension for a fourth year. Cinema tickets, as stipulated in the contract, will be priced at no more than 5 euros.
"The aim of a contract of this kind is to generate a cultural offer based on commercial and auteur cinema, especially at weekends, so that the citizens of Calpe have a leisure alternative in the municipality and thus alleviate the lack of cinemas in the town," said the Culture Councillor, Guillermo Sendra.
