Even if there are breakdowns in the water supply network, the company Aguas de Calpe can guarantee the supply thanks to the automated control system, the protocols for action in emergency situations and the speed of the company's staff.
These elements were key a few days ago when the remote control system of the supply sent an alarm of a pump stoppage in the Lucifer well due to an electrical fault. Aguas de Calpe's electro-mechanical officers went to the Lucifer well to determine the extent of the breakdown, and once there, they determined the seriousness of the problem, as the pump motor had broken down, which meant that the faulty pump had to be removed and replaced with the reserve pump.
The work to replace the pump involved moving a heavy crane to the Lucifer Well location to completely remove the pump's drive column. At the same time, the action protocol was activated to guarantee the continuity of the drinking water supply to Vall de Laguar and Murla.
In Calpe, the action protocol established in the Drought Emergency Plan was activated, modifying the management procedure of the supply system to maximise the production of drinking water from the Barranc Salat desalination plant, guaranteeing the maintenance of the levels of all the supply tanks.
The work to remove the faulty pump and install the back-up pump was carried out without interruption until the new pump was brought into service, without any problems being recorded in the continuity of the drinking water supply service.
In recent years, Aguas de Calpe has been carrying out important work in planning and developing investments aimed at guaranteeing the best supply service to the municipality and achieving sustainability in the management of water resources. Among these investments, in addition to the renewal of the network and the improvement of the supply system, the implementation of the remote control and remote monitoring system to improve supply management stands out.
