Calp Town Council has just published the bid for the urbanization works of La Manzanera zone II that will begin this year and must be finished before the summer of 2019. This project starts with a budget of 536,476 Euros and will complete the works of revitalization of La Manzanera housing estate, which ended last March.
In this phase, the works consist of the replacement of drinking water supply and street lighting, the widening of sidewalks to observe the accessibility law forming pedestrian routes, building of sidewalks in the streets that currently do not have it, asphalting of all the roads and the replacement of masonry walls.
In addition the project includes the conditioning of two existing green areas in this housing estate with urban furniture, trees and shaded area and horizontal and vertical signs in the whole area. These works will improve one of the most unique enclaves of the town since La Manzanera was designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill in the 70s as a residential complex integrated into the landscape.
The mayor of Calp César Sánchez said that "we continue to improve our housing estates, La Manzanera is one of the most beautiful places in the Mediterranean and we want to put it in value, the Town Council raised total funds for more than 1 million Euros; the favourable reassessment of the work of Ricardo Bofill and the future bid for the historic social club will improve the welfare of the residents. In addition, we will also increase our cultural tourism offer".
Calp Town Council is working on the rehabilitation of the housing estate but at the same time it is intended to recover the old Social Club, which is located within the maritime terrestrial area. The initiative goes further, because it also aims to regenerate the coastal front through the creation of a pedestrian walkway, while steps are being taken to approve the declaration of Good of Cultural Interest for the buildings Xanadú and Muralla Roja, designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill.
